Before you can sell your artworks online you must first document them.

Don’t let this discourage you. It doesn’t need to be complicated or costly to document your art. You only need a DSLR or high-quality smartphone camera, and a tripod.

These are the 3 steps you need to follow in order to start selling online

1.

Choose a wall that is neutral and well lit. You will get the best results if you use daylight.

PRO TIP
Daylight can showcase your work in its true colours without any glare.

2.

Place a grey card or reference colour chart on the wall near your artwork. Print one or buy one online.

PRO TIP
When setting up files, colour correct for printing, the colour bar can be a useful reference.

3.

Position your phone/camera so it is aligned with your artwork. Use a tripod to make it easier.

PRO TIP
Your phone/camera should be positioned so the frame is mostly filled with your work. Do not shoot at an angle. You should include some background – your customers will need to be able to see where you are placing the art in order to understand its scale.

Final Note: You could scan your work if it is smaller than A3.
